Erica M. Freeman, MA-MCHS, CD

Erica M. Freeman, MA-MCHS, CD, is an expert storyteller, award winning podcaster, and Founder and CEO of Sisters in Loss, a maternal child health education company that helps Black women replace silence with storytelling around pregnancy and infant loss and infertility.

Sisters in Loss provides maternal mental health and grief support services to help women step beyond anxiety and fear and into trust and peace after loss. As a result of her own journey to motherhood, she started the Sisters in Loss podcast, which spotlights resilient Black mothers who share intimate details of their journey to motherhood through painful, but inspirational loss and infertility stories. Her new book Never Healing Alone: For Black Women Silenced by Pregnancy Loss, When Being Strong isn’t Enough debuts in October 2026. 

Sisters in Loss has been featured in Forbes, BBC News, Black Enterprise, Women's Health, The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, and The White House.

As a savvy, creative engineer, Erica is known for a results-based, no-fluff approach in her work as a podcaster, grief educator, and motivational speaker. Erica is an Adjunct Professor at Bastyr University, teaching Midwifery and Maternal Child Health Systems students on Counseling through Grief and Loss, and Social Justice and Advocacy. 

She is member of the MOMMAs Voices Council of the Preeclampsia Foundation and movement partner with Black Mamas Matter Alliance. She is Certified Full Spectrum Doula, Birth worker Educator and Mentor, and Mom to 2 babies in heaven and one rainbow baby Maxwell also known as Super Mighty Max. She guides non-profit organizations and corporations to execute their vision for removing bias around grief and loss internally or externally, helping them increase their reach and impact by leveraging the power of storytelling in their support programming. Erica has also developed and conducted training programs centered around bereavement support, planning for funerals or memorials, and companioning the grieving in workplace and out of workplace settings for top companies.

Erica is an alumnae of Bastyr University with a M.A. in Maternal Child Health Systems and an alumnae of Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
